The first actitivity this year was taken from the excellent webpage Film English by Kieran Donaghy. This lesson is designed around a beautiful short film and poem, Choice, by Gnarly Bay. Following Kieran’s lesson instructions students do a dictation, visualise, watch a short film, speak about choices, and write a narrative for homework.

RispondiEliminaIn May 2013, I spent 4 weeks travelling through Mozambique and South Africa with my girlfriend. During these weeks we did a lot of things, we spent wonderful days, lived a wonderful adventure full of emotions. This is an experience we will never forget in our lives. We stayed in a lovely wooden house, surrounded by nature, with a fireplace in front of which you can warm up and relax. Now I will talk about our adventures. The first things we did was an excursion by sailing boat in crystal clear waters. We had fun at the beach, running and dancing on the gold sand, walking barefoot on the dunes where there were our footsteps. We dived in the beautiful waters, where we saw the seabed, a lot of fish and a shark with its puppy. We did a safari and we saw landscapes and beautiful animals like a little monkey, a deer, zebras, elephanths with their puppies, many birds, giraffes and lions.
We made long walks among these wonderful landscapes, in a suspension bridge where we could see the mountains. We were surrounded by nature, by beautiful waterfalls by mountains covered with green. After so much walking in front of us the sunset in all its beauty. We also took several trips by bike in various paths. Our scariest and bravest adventure was doing bunging jumping from a mountain, below us a lake and a forest. It was wonderful . Around us there were a spetacular ,breathtaking view.
At the night we did a bonfire and we spent hours and hours talking and looking at the stars. It was a wonderful journey full of exciting experiences. We also went to see a concert where there were a lot of people and after that we saw fireworks.
Now I will tell you about the best thing I did on this trip. The most important choice of my life. I asked my girlfriend to marry me. She said yes and I can't wait to marry her and start a new adventure with her. This trip changed my life forever.

In May 2013, a young couple decided to travel to Mozambique and South Africa.They stayed there for 4 weeks. During their journey they discovered a wonderful part of our planet. Wild nature, beautiful landscapes, big waterfalls and exotic animals are only a little part of their fantastic journey. The wind in the desert, the sunset in the savannah, a dive in the blue water of the ocean are priceless.
RispondiEliminaThese situations reflect the emotions they felt during this adventure. A red sunset in the savannah or in the desert is freedom, a walk near the waterfall is courage, a hug on a tropical beach is love! Because of this the main character of our story decided to ask her girlfriend to marry him and she could not refuse! This journey was a beautiful choice of adventure but especially of love!
In 2013 an American guy goes on holiday with his girlfriend; they spent 4 weeks travelling through Mozambique and South Africa. They spent a holiday full of emotions, they had new experiences and they saw many new places. During this holiday he took her on a sailing trip, they made an excursion in the forest where they observed all the beauties of nature including animals, they climbed mountains and they walked near beautiful waterfalls, they went to the beach. Thanks to these experiences he understood how much he loves her, that she is all he needs in his life, that wants to continue to travel with her and that the only thing he wants is to spend the rest of his life with her. At the end of the trip all these experiences led him to reflect on his life and to make an important decision: to ask his girlfriend to marry him.

RispondiEliminaThe best choice we can make is to choose to travel. There are so many ways to interpret the word "travel". Fundamentally, we can identify two big categories that belong to the verb travel. Therefore, we can read it from two points of view, both a material and a spiritual point of view.
In fact, travelling is not only corporeal but also spiritual, the soul journey!
When you choose to travel, you do it because of many reasons, each different form the other. Sometimes, we travel to restart, maybe because we are in a period of our lives when we have to choose, and we choose on the basis of what the past teaches us.
Travelling also helps us to live, to open our minds, our hearts and helps us to be part of our Earth that surrounds us all. Sometimes, we travel to explore new places and new cities, to know new cultures, or we travel to go away from a situation that we do not like or we travel simply because it is wonderful.
Material travelling is important, but the one most important is the journey that we do inside us.
The journey that we do inside our spirit. The most important places we have to know and necessary to understand, those are not faraway, but they are especially in our souls. We have to make this journey to know ourselves, to know who we were, who we are and who we would like to become!
When we go to new places, we meet new people, at the same time, the interior journey helps us to realize who are the people that are with us, to understand who of them are really important in our lives. To go on an interior journey is the first step to know ourselves!
This kind of journey also helps us to make the right choice, to understand what we really want.
Often, this journey is understimated, but to make the right decisions, especially for the ones that can be very important in our future, it is fundamental, at least once in life, meditate more on ourselves than on other.
To take choices is not always easy, often we make wrong decisions because we do not give enough space and especially enough time to ourselves. Haste and stress are the main enemies of any choice. Each day of our lives, from morning until night, we have to make many choices, maybe some more important than others, and for this reason it is indispensable that we learn to reflect. Because when we will be in a difficult or important situation, it is essential that we know what we have to choose. We need to know what we really want.
People travel to be amazed by mountains, rivers, stars, but they pass in front of themselves without wonder. This is the real problem.
We do not understand who we are and it happens also with the people around us, in this way we lose opportunities. It is for this reason that the best choice we have to make, before making others choices, is to travel, to know ourselves, to make a unique journey in search of our identity. Only in this way, we can say that we will win the uncertainties and the insecurities.
Only in this way, the choices of our lives can appear slightly easier.
The objective of everyone has to be to travel, to explore, but not only with the head, and to go in search of the most beautiful places in the world that surrounds us and in the soul that belongs us.

A young couple of travelling guys decide to go to South Africa for a wonderful journey. They are an adventurous and athletic couple that travel around the world. It looks like every other trips they did during their life with safaris and excursions in the nature, but, unexpectedly, something different happened. The guy feels that it is time to take an important step, to make a choice that could change his life, so he decides to ask his sweetheart to marry him. He waits for the right moment to make the proposal among romantic walks on the beach, bonfires, bungee jumping, mountain walks, and trips between elephants and zebras.
RispondiEliminaFinally, when the fateful moment comes, he is nervous, but he can pronunce those important words and give the ring: she is so happy and excited that she starts to cry but she does not hesitate a moment to say yes to spend all her life with her man. Their journey continues, with more and more enthusiasm and light heartedness. When they come back home they start to organize their splendid wedding, and after that, they continue to travel all over the world, more and more in love.The young man decided to gather together all the experiences of this trip in a video, to never forget these beautiful moments.
Choice. In May 2013 Dana decided to work for one month in another country. He went to Mozambique and South Africa with his girlfriend.
RispondiEliminaThe emotions during this experience among the wild landscapes, the sea, and the African animals made him think, in fact he asked his girlfriend to marry him.
In the video he meditates on the " choices " and he says that the choices good or not good are unknown. In the video he says also that for him the choices seem simple now because this good experience feeds hopes for the future.
Dan is a modern guy, he's not travelling to visit places superficially, take pictures or buy souvenirs as would a simple tourist, it is mainly sharing emotions exploring unknown places and then living the magic of discovery.

He choose after a canoe trip, an excursion in the forest and a long swim among fish in the African Ocean to live all these emotions with the person he loves. Just this thought pushes Dan to finish this adventure with maybe the most important choice of his life: to ask his girlfriend to marry him.
He chose her, she is the woman he wants to grow up and grow old with but especially he wants to continue travelling because travelling it is life and there is no better way to do that with the person you love.

In this video the movie maker shows that in life we must make choices; everyone can take the most satisfying road and then trying to reach the goal. Often the paths and simpler choices involve more certainties but, at the same time these paths don’t give the expectative satisfaction.

Through the images from their journey in South Africa he reflects on how choices modify our life, which take different paths depending on the ones we make. His important choice is if ask or not his girlfriend to marry him. The journey helped him to figure out the right decision to take, exploring what was unknown of her, and so did she with him. As well they explored South Africa, that is as various as the choices we can make .

RispondiEliminaThis video was shot in May of 2013 during Dan's journey with his girlfriend through Mozambique and South Africa.
The poem does not make us understand what is the choice. He said the words "to stay or go" and this makes us think that the decision could be whether to stay or go away from that wonderful place. In fact he takes really beautiful pictures: waterfalls, crystal clear water, green and unspoiled places, starry skies, and so many wonderful animals.
Everything is a possible choice, but we know that he will ask her to marry him. We can understand that just from the video where we see the ring and Nina jumping on the bed saying with a big smile “I’m so excited”.
The landscapes that we enjoy in the video, now give way to what is real adventure that the two guys are going to take. This adventure begins from this journey together.
And whatching them having fun together and smiling make us happy.
2013 an American guy, called Dan, decided to spend four weeks in Mozambique

He decided to leave with his girlfriend, the woman of his life, because he really loved
her, infact he asks her to marry him; a very important choice for them. Dan really loves his girlfriend, the night before the trip, he dreams he is in Africa where he asks his girlfriend to marry him. After that he made his choice.
First, they remember the past but they are happy for their future and they think about their
journey and their moments together...and this video is a recap of all this.
During the video the guy speaks about what he thinks on being married. He describes all the emotions that he feels about this topic and the reason because he does this is explained in the images that flow while he is talking.

This video is very emotional, for many aspects. It is nice that the boy asks his girlfriend to marry him during a journey like this. In fact this request is fantastic, it is not a trip that you do every day. The girl would not have ever expected this. During the journey they have been in many beautiful exotic places, and this made all more wonderful. The guy was very excited, because he did an unusual thing, that you don’t do every day, but it’s fantastic! After I watched the video, I was very surprised of this proposal, of course positively, and, in the future, I would like to ask my girlfriend to marry me in a similar way.

And that is right, but sometimes memories make us slaves of the past; and it is useless to live on memories but enjoy the present. The present is now, it is an instant, it is a life and that is one, and we do not know when it ends but we know that ends: today we are here, but tomorrow we do not know, and becouse of that we must live day by day. To live to be happy, because if we are not happy, we really do not live.

Dana is in love with his girlfriend. They made a trip on Mozambique and South Africa. He decided the future of his life. He thinks over about the right and the pain of this choice, a difficult choice. He imagined his life after the marriage like a trip. The protagonists are Dana and Nina. They’re traveling during the years, day by day, with thousand “decision like directions”. It is a beautiful trip, with wonderful moments, but it is not easy. There are a lot of difficults obstacles to deal with patience and tranquilty, because all obstacles can be addressed, expecially if you are two. Dana loves trips, loves obstacles and the choice is very simple. Take it a right occasion with courage Dana asked her to marry him. The answer is obvious. Dana’s real trip starts that day. A infinite trip, that he just starts this trip.
